Game on with PlayStation® Schools’ Cup

Going grassroots across the UK

Game on with PlayStation® Schools’ Cup

We cannot be more excited to announce that we are now working with the one and only SONY PlayStation®!

Kicking off last month, we’re helping the computer giant activate its sponsorship of the PlayStation® Schools’ Cup, the grassroots football partnership between PlayStation® and the English Schools’ Football Association (ESFA).

PlayStation® has a longstanding history of supporting grassroots football, so it is very exciting for our already football crazy team, to get to support the campaign. The tournaments are open to girls and boys throughout England within the U12, U13, U14 and U15 age categories.  Over 2,000 schools will take part.

That’s more than 100,000 students who’ll get the chance to be involved in the tournament, representing their schools, and benefiting from the coaching available from the ESFA.  Previous stars that have competed in ESFA tournaments include Michael Owen, Wes Brown, Chris Smalling, Jermain Defoe, Nicky Butt, Phil Neville and Ryan Giggs.

To celebrate the launch of the PlayStation Schools’ Cup, each school involved can now look forward to receiving a PlayStation Kit Bag, featuring a match day football, training bibs and supporters’ flags.

There is also a chance for budding young sports journalists to put their creative writing skills to the test when they take part in the E-Reporter competition that sees pupils submit match day reports online for their chance to cover the excitement of the PlayStation School’s Cup Festival, which will take place at the end of the season in May.

Ten ‘Tie of the round’ matches will be further supported with the presence of the PlayStation School’s Cup Match Day Hub.  Our 8m x 8m Inflatable dome will sit pitch side and provide an opportunity for students throughout the school to take part in the excitement of the day.   The Match Day Hub, is the focal point of our presence at the school that day.  A base for the ESFA coaches to run skills clinics, and of course providing an opportunity for tournament spectators and students alike to get hands on with the latest consoles and games from PlayStation.

Visitors to the Match Day Hub have the opportunity to take part in a photo mechanic, which places the visitor on the front cover of MATCH! Magazine, an official media partner to the PlayStation® Schools’ Cup.   Each photograph can be immediately shared through social channels.  Now, what could be a more fitting momento of what could possibly be the coolest PE lesson in history?!

As if that wasn’t enough PlayStation® have even managed to coax down some of the biggest names in football to share their tips and tricks on and off the pitch – and have a go on PlayStation of course. Ashley Young and Michael Dawson have both made appearances so far, which definitely livened up the standard PE lesson.

Finally, students who are not participating in the football tournament first hand are given the opportunity to prove their skills in the virtual game.  Their chance to showcase their skills and earn the right to represent their school at the PlayStation School’s Cup Festival, where 32 finalists will compete for the Virtual Championship.

The action packed festival will host a range of football themed activities that all the family can enjoy, while providing a fitting finale to the schools’ football season. Adding to the occasion, each school that reaches the final of their respective tournament will be rewarded with a brand new PlayStation football strip for their team.

Keep an eye on the official Twitter feed @PSSchoolsCup  to find out when we’re heading to a school near you – it all depends on how the tournament shapes up – and a massive good luck to all the young athletes involved. We look forward to meeting you all soon!
