At an exciting time for us after a number of new client wins, we are pleased to welcome Jamie Green as our brand new Senior Account Director.
Jamie is joining our Senior Management Team and will work alongside Winston as joint head of the Client Service Division. He’ll be overseeing a collection of accounts including EA™.
With 10 years experience in the brand experience sector, we feel privileged to have such a talented and knowledgeable client service pro on board. Previously you would have seen Jamie working on campaigns with blue chip clients such as Sky, Diageo, GSK and E.ON, where he activated the experiential strategy surrounding the FA Cup sponsorship campaign.
Jamie is already well and truly underway on some exciting new Circle campaigns, so watch this space!
The inaugural Circle Agency Bake Off started with some serious verbal sniping. Each person was assigned to make either a sweet or savoury dish with a winner and a prize for each. The challenge was clear: each category was to be judged on four key factors – Moreishness, Ambition, Taste and Appearance. An average score would then be determined for each category, the scores totted up and the winners crowded.
By the time the big day arrived, everyone was suitably hyped up about what they had made. The moment where the dishes were revealed was finally here and boy did everyone go to a lot of effort! We had sculptures made out of pastry, salad garnishes….and even a rich tea biscuit with writing on it.
The event began with some social media interaction involving celebrity baker Lorraine Pascal re-tweeting Jonny, giving us a reach of over 24k before the party had even started.
Now, it was time for the moment of truth, the tasting. The savoury tasting came first with Paul Cooper, our warehouse manager taking the title for spring 2012. Paul had gone to great effort with a super food salad and sushi parcels, and is now the proud holder of the Glittered Circle Spoon.
Other notable entries were Jonny’s fishy tarts, Claire’s Mexican Dip (so good that Son took the leftovers home in a cup) and Kath’s Scotch Eggs that were too big to fit into egg cups. Ben even baked his own bread.
Next up, the sweet tasting – a tough one with so many yummy options. Beckie bought a special cupcake maker which, in the end, earned her a respectable 3rd place. Our winner though was Andrew Laity, one of our account managers, with his Chocolate and Cherry Cheesecake, with a surprising base of popping candy.
A lot of effort went into all of the baking, with Andy Mac making a carrot and orange cake, Matt Ford competing with a chocolate and mint brownie concoction and Alex Frost making every single person a custom made milkshake.
Before the competition there was a lot of discussion about whether a milkshake counted as ‘baking’ (including some underhand Wikipedia changes from Mr Frost) which in the end cost him the spoon which Andrew now proudly looks after.

Twas the night of the Circle Christmas party and we descended in force on the Hotel Du Vin in the beautiful Henley-on-Thames for a night of celebratory merriment, games and (bad) prizes.
We started the evening with a champagne reception in the comfort of the cosy snug, before heading into the dining area for our meal and the remainder of the festivities. It began with a little celebration of the fact that our Head of Talent (the lovely bubbly Kathryn Norris) has now been with the team for a fab five years. Seriously, can we remember a time without the Norris at Circle? We just wouldn’t work without her.
After some fantastic food the party really got started. Reminiscent of our youth we rolled out old school classic games including ‘Who am I?’, the not-so-traditional ‘After Eight Game’ and a novel game of ‘Heads and Bums’ (on the recommendation of who else?-Mrs Kath Norris). The pièce de résistance was of course none other than musical statues.
Of course, the night simply wouldn’t have been complete without prizes, which were the festive cheese you’d imagine- including a pair of Elton John style Christmas tree glasses, a drinking straw made in the shape of a pair of spectacles, ‘Minger’ top trumps and, of course, several shots of various concoctions.
Needless to say there were a lot of sore heads the next day, which thankfully was a Saturday. And with CircleAgency having a rare day off, we all made the most of it.
Over and above every one of EA™’s now extensive portfolio of experiential campaigns, the EA™ Play 4 Xmas Tour is still heralded as the crown jewel in our portfolio. The four tEAms from Birmingham, London, Manchester and Sheffield are the heart and soul of this campaign, working with dedication and enthusiasm for 28 live days to ensure the customer’s experience is nothing but exceptional. It is this high standard of service that our staff are known for that requires us to take our training very seriously…
On 17th November 2011 all 40 of our event managers and brand ambassadors travelled from their various hometowns across England to take part in two days of immersive brand and campaign training and of course a dose of good old fashioned competition. Although many of our ambassadors have worked for us for many years (our longest has worked on all 9 campaigns), all are expected to renew their training with us on a regular basis and of course assist in passing on their experience to newer members of the team.
The four teams take part in a friendly but highly spirited competition to be crowned tEAm of the Year. This year was no different and the competitiveness and banter started from the moment everyone arrived. Kath even received bribes in the form of chocolates for extra points!
Day one, is a full on day. After registration, we began with a welcome address from Claire and our client Penny, introducing the tours heritage, running through the campaign objectives and an overview of the campaign mechanics they will be working with.
Given the importance of this campaign to EA’s Christmas sales period, all of the product managers at EA, give their time to attend the training personally and present their titles to our BA’s. Providing as much information as they can about the new releases and providing an essential walk through of the game play. To ensure a link back to the overarching competition, each PM ends their session by asking 4 product related questions, which are answered in groups and points awarded. Ensuring that our staff remain engaged throughout. On the spot prizes add a little more encouragement throughout.
Following each session, BA’s are given the opportunity to gets hand on with the games at one of 40 gaming stations that are set out for them to play.
Over dinner that evening (accompanied with beer and wine of course) we played mini games to help build team morale. Claire and Jonny (our longest serving Circle Brand Ambassador) debated over how many years the tour has been live… was it 9 or 10 years…. not surprisingly, Claire won!
Day 2 focuses more on campaign mechanics, health and safety, measurement, reporting and a more general level of campaign training.
So, it was close, but this year’s winner of the EA Play 4 Xmas training academy was Birmingham’s Team Bullring. But the completion just hot’s up from here, as we begin the 9th annual EA Play 4 Xmas Tour next week and everyone is definitely ready to make this year’s the best Xmas Tour yet.
Last night was an evening of nonstop celebrations as we were recognised with no less than four Brand Experience Awards, including the coveted ‘Brand Experience Agency of the Year’.
The FMBE Awards are always a favourite in our social calendar and this year’s event definitely did not disappoint! The evening started with our talented team being awarded bronze for ‘Most Targeted Campaign’ for the Pioneer Summer Tour and the ‘Legacy Award’ for EA™ Xmas Tour, followed by silver for ‘Best Stand Design’ on EA™’s Play4Xmas Tour.
Already on a high after three wins, great food, company and of course a few glasses of bubbly, it was the time we were all waiting for…(drum roll please)….the announcement of ‘Brand Experience Agency of the Year’.
A moment of shocked silence descended on Circle’s two tables when our name was announced (we have a video of Claire’s face to prove just how surprised!), before we all erupted into shouts of celebration.
And that is of course where the Champagne really began to flow, with many of us tearing up the dance floor until the early hours. A few sore heads were definitely experienced the next morning!
It’s an accolade that we are all immensely proud of and a true recognition of the fantastic team we’ve built here at Circle and the pioneering clients we get to work with on a daily basis. Thank you to everyone for their hard work…bring on next year!

A regular speaker on Experiential in the UK and overseas, she is a Business Leader of the Marketing Society and sits on the steering committee for the Institute of Promotional Marketing’s Experiential Marketing Certificate, acting as a lecturer and course contributor. Claire has consistently featured in EVENT Magazine’s list of the UK’s 100 most influential people in the Event Industry.
Neil’s primary role at Circle is to oversee all of the creative and digital output of the agency; collaborating with strategy, account and creative teams to deliver integrated solutions that strategically align to client objectives.
Kath has successfully profiled and matched 1000’s of staff to our client’s campaigns- ensuring that each individual is carefully selected to deliver against the campaign brief. She demands more than a standard promotional performance from her team- she expects nothing less than the very best; insightful, educational and informative dialogue that ultimately drives conversation.
Andy’s role at Circle is to oversee the production and logistics of our campaigns, to ensure they are delivered to the highest standards every time. His experience in working across technology to FMCG products, is second to none and no project is too small or too big to not get Andy’s attention.
Andy has refined the processes at Circle to seamlessly blend them into our agency ways of working, delivering an efficient and streamlined service to our clients.
